Responsibilities for this position include:

  • We’re looking for a technical writer to develop clear, accurate, sales-order–specific operation and maintenance manuals for equipment we manufacture. You’ll transform engineering data, BOMs, and customer specifications into deliverables that support safe operation, efficient installation, and effective service—tailored to each order.
  • Create, edit, and publish sales-order–specific equipment manuals, including operation, installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and parts documentation.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, models, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, test procedures, and BOMs to produce accurate, configuration-specific content.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, Service, and Sales to capture order-specific variants, options, and customer requirements.
  • Standardize content using templates, style guides, controlled terminology, and reusable components while accommodating order-level differences.
  • Produce illustrations and schematics (e.g., callouts, exploded views) from CAD or photos; annotate for clarity and safety.
  • Incorporate safety, regulatory, and compliance content (labels, warnings, certifications) relevant to the specific build and destination market.
  • Manage document versions through the product lifecycle: quote, order, as-built, factory acceptance, shipment, and post-install updates.
  • Maintain source content in a structured authoring environment (e.g., DITA/XML or component content management) to enable reuse and rapid turnaround.
  • Deliver manuals in requested formats (PDF, web/HTML, interactive/embedded) and integrate with customer portals or device HMIs when applicable.

Qualifications for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years creating equipment manuals or similar documentation in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, schemas, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with authoring tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker, InDesign, MadCap Flare, Oxygen XML/DITA) and graphics tools (e.g., Illustrator, Snagit, CAD viewers).
  • Strong grasp of safety standards and compliance (e.g., ISO/IEC, ANSI/OSHA, CE/UKCA) and how they apply to manuals.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and information architecture skills; ability to tailor content to operators, installers, and service technicians.
  • Experience with version control and content/PLM systems (e.g., Git, Windchill, Teamcenter, Arena, or CCMS).
  • Comfortable working from as-built data, change notices, ECNs/ECRs, and collaborating on the shop floor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with interactive manuals, 3D illustrations, AR/QR-linked procedures, or embedded help in HMIs.
  • Familiarity with field service workflows, CMMS, and spare parts catalogs.
  • Translation/localization workflow experience and terminology management.
  • Knowledge of single-sourcing strategies and content reuse taxonomies for configure-to-order (CTO) or engineer-to-order (ETO) products.

To Apply:

Submit a resume, two samples of relevant equipment manuals (or excerpts), and a brief note describing your role in producing them and the tools used. Resume and information can be emailed to jdorn@dupps.com.
