Job description
On behalf of our client, Affinity is seeking a Technical Writer who will develop written information about the organization’s computing systems that aid in their development, use, and support. Outputs include will include a range of documents to be read by both technical and non-technical personnel across all departments.
Strategy & Planning:
- Liaise with department heads and end users to define identify business procedures and establish documentation needs for hardware and software.
- Analyze IT project requirements to determine types of documents needed.
- Collaborate with systems and development staff to collect and interpret technical information.
- Liaise with printers and graphic artists to plan layout, graphical elements, and formatting of documents.
- Ensure final documents are usable and of high quality.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new documentation tools and methods in support of documentation improvement efforts.
Operational Management
- Develop documentation project plans and timelines.
- Plan, design, research, write, and edit a range of documents, including user guides and manuals, technical specifications, training materials, user policies, and proposals, for both print and online media.
- Edit written documentation of development and other IT staff to create unified and consistent support documents.
- Establish, communicate, and maintain documentation standards, and provide training where required.
- Maintain accuracy of all documentation and policies are up to date.
Formal Education & Certification
University degree in the field of English, Communications, or Journalism. A background in technology is desirable.
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 3 years equivalent work experience.
- Hands-on technical writing and editing experience, with specific experience in documenting information technology software and systems.
- Knowledge of information gathering, planning, and organizing methods and principles.
- Experience with various desktop publishing tools.
- Strong understanding of document formatting and presentation techniques.
Skillsets
- Fluent with financial domains
- Significant experience with relevant Office tools including Microsoft Visio and Lucid chart
- Analyze existing documentations to drive the write-up of manuals, user guides and other documents to explain clearly and concisely the installation, operation and maintenance of software and electronic, mechanical and other equipment
- Conduct research to establish factual content and to obtain other necessary information

Top Skills Necessary
- 3+ years of experience developing and documenting IT risk and controls, with direct experience documenting business process documentation and controls.
- 3+ years of experience creating or modifying Management Policies and Standards, processes, SOP, run books, user guide policy, as well as process flow, workflow creation.
- 2+ years of experience mapping the policies to applicable financial regulations including OSFI, B-10, PIPEDA, B-13, Bill-64 and the Bank Act.
- 2+ years of experience updating policies and standards with appropriate mapping to relevant financial and banking security frameworks such as PCI-DSS 4.0, CSI 8.0, NIST 2.0.
