QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 2 years training material writing experience.
- At least 2 years of technical industry experience (mining or safety systems advantageous).
- Strong understanding of technical systems and electrical fundamentals – Diploma/ Bachelors degree in engineering field advantageous.
- Excellent written English communication skills.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and document formatting tools.
- Strong attention to detail and structured writing ability.
OVERVIEW
As a Technical Writer in our fast-paced and innovative organisation, you are responsible for developing, structuring, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation across A&R’s full range of safety systems. These include Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS), Pedestrian Detection Systems (PDS), Missing Person Locators (MPL), Railbound Safety Solutions, Lamproom Management Systems, and other integrated safety technologies.
You will convert complex technical information into clear, structured, and user-friendly documentation to support installation teams, technicians, operators, engineering departments, and clients. This role focuses exclusively on technical documentation development and control, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with operational requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical Documentation Development
- Develop comprehensive operator manuals, installation manuals, commissioning guides, and user instructions for all A&R systems.
- Create structured fault-finding guides and troubleshooting procedures.
- Translate engineering and system information into clear, practical documentation for field use.
- Ensure documentation is technically accurate and easy to understand for technical personnel.
- Document Control & Version Management
- Maintain strict version control of all documentation.
- Update documentation when system revisions, product developments, or technical improvements occur.
- Ensure obsolete documents are removed from circulation.
- Maintain a master document register and structured filing system.
- Technical Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, R&D, Installations, and Support teams to gather accurate technical information.
- Attend technical discussions when required to ensure documentation reflects actual system functionality.
- Verify all technical details prior to document release.
- Visual & Structural Content Development
- Develop structured diagrams, system flowcharts, tables, and technical illustrations.
- Integrate wiring diagrams, system layouts, and component descriptions into documentation.
- Ensure documentation formatting aligns with our branding and quality standards.
- Technical Bulletins & Updates
- Develop and issue technical bulletins when system updates, changes, or clarifications are required.
- Ensure field teams are provided with updated and clear written guidance when modifications occur.
- Compliance & Quality Alignment
- Ensure documentation aligns with internal quality standards and client requirements.
- Support documentation required for audits, client submissions, and OEM confirmations.
- Ensure documentation reflects safe operational practices and correct system application.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate documentation records and revision histories.
- Provide documentation status updates to management when required.
- Track document development timelines and ensure deadlines are met.
